Inflation, labor costs, and supply chain issues have upped the total cost and expanded the construction timeline for a new Steindler North Liberty Ambulatory Surgery Center planned near where the University of Iowa is building its new hospital – which also recently aired substantial cost increases.

University of Iowa Health Care on Tuesday got state approval to continue building a massive 469,000-square-foot hospital campus in North Liberty as planned – despite a more than 33 percent cost overrun, bringing the total project budget to more than half a billion dollars.

Although University of Iowa Health Care recently received Board of Regents approval to up its spend on a new 469,000-square-foot hospital project in North Liberty by 33 percent to $525.6 million, the campus still needs state approval to proceed.
