David E. Karr
Hiawatha
David E. Karr, 85, of Hiawatha, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2024.
David was born July 1, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, IA to Ralph E. and Rayona (Caraway) Karr. David married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Catherine A. (Frazier) Karr; he was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. David was an honorable man, a hard worker and would always be there to help anyone in need. He was a jack-of-all-trades and was not afraid to build or fix anything. He lived up to his last name for his love of cars; he enjoyed construction, farming, driving anything, car shows and time at the lake with his family. He was a contractor and real estate broker, and as a couple shared the love for dogs and other animals over the years.
David was survived by their children: Tammy K. Swanson (John (Ed)) of Center Point, Rodney D. Karr (Kara) of Cedar Rapids, Angie L. Van Fossen (Richard) of Vinton, foster; Curt Cleveland (Kristyn) of Cedar Rapids. His sisters: Helen Karr of Center Point, and Cathy (Randy) Vincent of Marion, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his wife Catherine, Father Ralph E. Karr, Mother Rayona Karr, Stepmother Lorena Fern, Brothers; Ronald, Warren, sisters; Linda Horne, Barb Trask, and Lynette Dahlke, Nephew; Steven Karr.
As David requested there will be no services scheduled. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be directed to the family in loving memory of David. Then in loving memory of David and Catherine it will go to the Cedar Valley Humane Society. Possible Celebration of Life at a later date.
A special thank you to Michele Burnes, Heritage Care Initiatives, St. Croix Hospice, friends and family for all the support and prayers.
