Scott Edward Eiler, 64, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at his home. The family will greet friends from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the funeral home, preceded by an hour of visitation. Burial, with full military honors by the American Legion and the US Air Force Honors Detail, will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Scott was born on September 4, 1960, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Donald and Darlene (Ayers) Eiler. He was a 1979 graduate of East Buchanan High School and later attended college. Scott served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in Germany, until his honorable discharge in 1983. He then worked for Hummer Trucking as a long-haul truck driver for 18+ years, which he described as “the best company he ever worked for”, as they always made sure he was at home for his VA appointments. Throughout his career, he was able to complete one of his bucket list items, visiting every state in the USA. Scott was a member of the Marion American Legion. He loved taking photos and writing. Scott will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Scott is survived and lovingly remembered by his mother, Darlene Eiler of Marion; sister, Lisa Eiler of Marion; nephew, Brandon (Sydney) Dvorsky and their children, Winston and Delilah Dvorsky of Marion; uncles, Clifford (Sherry) Ayers of Marion, and Douglas Ayers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and an aunt, Mary Gardner of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Eiler; grandparents; several aunts, uncles, and other loved ones.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Scott’s friend, Patty, a dispatcher at Hummer Trucking, for her friendship and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Scott’s memory may be directed to the Marion American Legion.
