Funeral services for 85-year-old Jeanette Haars of Ft. Smith, Arkansas will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 4th at the Murdoch Funeral Home, Center Point, Iowa. Jeanette died December 19, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Burial will be at Alice Cemetery, Linn County, Iowa.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday preceding the funeral service. Burial will be in Alice Cemetery in rural Center Point, Iowa.
Jeanette was born March 10th, 1939, in Center Point, Iowa. She was the daughter of Dale and Hazel (Hand) Matheny. She was married May 20th, 1956, to Philip Charles Haars at Center Point. Philip and Jeanette lived in Iowa, Washington, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Missouri before moving to Northfield, Minnesota where Jeanette worked in corporate accounting for 12 years. In 1992 they retired to Bull Shoals, Arkansas. Philip died February 29, 2000, and Jeanette returned to Iowa the following year. She enjoyed spending time with her Dad and Brother, volunteering for the Genealogical Society of Linn County, Iowa and the Center Point Historical Society. In 2016 she returned to Arkansas to be near two of her children and their families.
Survivors: 2 sons, David Haars of Webster, Minnesota, and Clifton Haars of Barling, Arkansas; 2 daughters, Janet Haars of Huntington, Arkansas, and Carol Kasten of Troy, Montana; eleven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Douglas Matheny of Spring, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister Bernita Houts, daughter-in-law Dawn Haars and her parents.
Jeanette was blessed with her faith, family and friends. She was a member of Central Christian Church, Fort Smith, enjoyed researching her family history and traveling with her friend, Morris to 61 foreign countries and many US States.
