Gladys “Hap” Mary Kint, 102, of Manchester, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Mercy Hospice in Cedar Rapids. She had been a resident of The Meadows in Manchester since 2011. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m., Reverend Garbriel Anderson will officiate. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Manchester assisted the family.
Hap was born on March 26, 1922, the daughter of Murray and Aggie (Jiras) Yenter in Oxford, Iowa. She graduated from Oxford High School where she played on the girls’ basketball team. She married Maynard “Buck” Kint on June 15, 1944, and they celebrated 70 years of marriage together. Hap, a devoted wife and mother of three, worked at a couple of short-term jobs before becoming the head secretary for Lambert Elementary School in Manchester. Hap enjoyed working in the yard, gardening, and spent a lot of time decorating the A-frame house that she and Buck built in Manchester.
Hap is survived by her son, Joseph (Polly) Kint; three grandsons, B.J. (Jackie) Backes, Chris (Cari) Backes, and Tim (Mina) Backes; three great-granddaughters, Ellie (Lucas) Jensen, Libbie Backes, and Estella Backes: one great-great-granddaughter, Zula Backes; son-in-law, Ken Backes; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Yenter.
Hap was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buck Kint; son, Kenny Kint; daughter, Kathy Backes; grandson, Noah Backes; sisters, Ioan (Guy) Lombardo, Hazel (Virgil) Parker; and her brother, Richard Yenter.
