Velva Gadient, 91, of Monticello, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at home.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, where a parish rosary and vigil service will be at 3 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Velva was born June 4, 1926, in Prairieburg, the daughter of Victor A. and Rose Marie (Marek) Holub. She married Irvin Gadient on Oct. 2, 1945, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Central City. Together, they farmed all of their lives.
She is survived by four children, Gary (Katy) Gadient of Delhi and June (Roy Davis) Koelker, Jim (Tami Bartram) Gadient and Joan (Ed) Sauser, all of Monticello; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dorrance (Mary Pat) Holub of Coggon; and a sister-in-law, Edna Gadient of Monticello.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irvin; a granddaughter, Jackie Koelker-Niehaus; and four siblings, Alvina (John) Eden, Arthur (Leona) Holub, Violet (Bernard) Crowley and Irvin Holub.
Memorials are preferred to Camp Courageous of Iowa or Monticello Senior Dining.
