Raymond Frerick, age 84, passed away on December 18, 2024. While officially listed as natural causes, it was really a broken heart after losing his wife in November.
He will be laid to rest alongside his wife, Karen, during a private graveside service on Friday, December 20 at 1:30 pm at Memorial Services of Iowa. A remembrance will be held in the spring.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Grebasch and grandson, Jerry. Also surviving are his brother, Ron (Geri) Frerick of Cedar Rapids and sister, Kathy (Orlyn) Brunssen of Anamosa. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 57 years, Karen; parents, Ted and Myrtle Frerick and sister, Rosemary Kristjanson.
Ray was born and raised in Vinton, Iowa. Then on November 18, 1967, he was united in marriage to Karen Paul at Alice United Methodist Church. They made their home in Vinton for several years, before moving to Cedar Rapids where he spent the majority of his life. They moved to spend their final years in Ankeny to be closer to their daughter and her family. Throughout his life, Ray enjoyed reading, listening to his favorite rock-n-roll music (especially Elvis) and watching television.
The family thanks those taking care of Ray in the last month from Iowa Lutheran Hospital, SunnyView Care Center and St. Croix Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice.
