It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Dougherty, age 54, who bravely fought a three-year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Mark passed away at home on December 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born on August 25, 1970, in Clarion, Iowa, and raised in Belmond, Iowa, Mark was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew him. He was a devoted husband to Tammy for 25 wonderful years, sharing a love that inspired everyone around them. Together, they created a loving home filled with laughter and cherished memories.
Mark found immense joy in watching his children, Jake, Claire, and Max, pursue their passions and participate in various activities. He was their biggest supporter, always present at their events and celebrating their achievements with pride and enthusiasm.
Mark’s journey with ALS was marked by unwavering strength and resilience, showcasing his remarkable spirit during challenging times. His positive outlook and love for life inspired those around him, proving that the human spirit can triumph over adversity.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Tammy, and their children, Jake, Claire, and Max, who will carry forward his legacy of love, kindness, and encouragement. He is also survived by his parents, Denny and Joan Dougherty; brothers, Phil (Christine) Dougherty, Brad (Missy) Dougherty, Eric (Jayme Dougherty); in-laws Larry and Judy Bowers, Jenny Bowers, Ben (Kristi) Bowers, Jay (Ella) Bowers; and many nephews and nieces.
Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Russ and Maxine Dougherty, Raymond and Margaret Deimerly; and his nephew, Vincent Bowers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, December 16, 2024, at All Saints Catholic Church, by Rev. John Flaherty. Burial will be at Oak Shade Cemetery. A time for sharing will be at 1 p.m., Sunday, December 15, 2025 at Teahen Funeral Home. Those not attending the time of sharing can visit with the family from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home or after 9 a.m. at the church on Monday, before the Mass.
Mark will be forever remembered for his loving and considerate heart, his big smile, and the twinkle in his eye. Mark had a quiet way of making everyone feel important. He had a profound impact on everyone who knew him. He will be dearly missed but will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Rest in peace, Mark.
