Patrick Devereux of Iowa City was a paratrooper/pathfinder/door gunner who fought bravely and was injured with a skull fracture in the Vietnam war. He and his wife had been in search of missing military records for 48 years. The Devereuxs were looking diligently not just to prove to the VA that he was deserving of much-needed healthcare, but to show his countrymen and government that he did in fact serve honorably.
Finally, after an exhausting battle to prove he served, they did receive VA benefits, thanks to sworn affidavits from peers to prove he served his country.
However, something was still eating at Patrick. He and his wife reached out to Congresswoman Mariannette Miller Meeks’ office. The congresswoman and her team were not only able to secure him a walk-in shower, they are also sending Patrick’s military records to the military board for review for a potential bronze star medal for over 25 missions of heroism and rescues in Cambodia. The review of military records is a long process, yet Patrick is confident they will find his commander’s recommendation.
Patrick and his wife told me they are so grateful to Congresswoman Miller-Meeks for working so hard to give him the recognition he deserves! I’m grateful that voters have chosen to have Miller-Meeks represent their interests in Washington, D.C. for another term.
