CEDAR RAPIDS — It may be tastier than it sounds.
Dirty sodas, a trend making its way east from Utah, are finding a home in Cedar Rapids with one of the first permanent menus in the area.
Dirty Dough, which opened its first Iowa franchise in January at 2811 Wiley Blvd. SW, Suite 100, has expanded beyond stuffed cookies and into dirty sodas. The Cedar Rapids franchise is one of 18 Dirty Dough locations across the country debuting a new menu they call “Dirty Drinks.”
The beverage line features indulgent combinations of soda bases, unique syrups and toppings that makes soda really pop.
The Coco-Loco, for example, features coconut syrup mixed with classic Coke and a splash of cream. The Brookie Monster takes Coke, adds caramel, dark chocolate syrup and a splash of cream, and tops it with whipped cream and caramel.
The Caribbean Crush infuses Sprite with pineapple juice and coconut syrup. The Dreamsicle Delight enhances Fanta Orange with vanilla syrup and vanilla cream.
Customers can try one of 16 options, or craft anything their imagination can come up with using dozens of syrup, creamer and mix-in options. In addition to dirty sodas, Dirty Dough offers coffee-based and milkshake beverages, too.
Dirty sodas have been popular in Utah for years, as demonstrated by chains like Sodalicious and Swig. Sodalicious has started migrating to nearby states, like Idaho and Arizona, while Swig has found broader success with locations across the South.
