Dean Lee Gerard, 96, longtime resident of Iowa City, died Friday, December 6, 2024 at the Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City.
Private graveside services are being planned for Memorial Garden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dean’s memory to Briarwood Health Care Center. Online condolences may be sent through the web at www.gayandciha.com.
Dean was born on April 9, 1928, at home in Millersburg, Iowa to Clayton and Frances Gerard. At age 14, the family moved to Iowa City, where Dean attended City High School. He married Mary Ann Stevens on January 15, 1953. Dean served ten years in the Iowa National Guard and spent many years in the auto service station business, as an Owner, Manager or as a mechanic.
His family includes son, Dennis Gerard (Ellen); 3 grandsons, Michael Gerard (Rachel), James Gerard (Jenniffer) and Joseph Gerard (Michelle); seven great-granddaughters; a brother, James and sister, Evelyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Ann and sisters Lillian, Mary Lou and Norma.
