James Michael Eckert, 77, of Fairfax, Iowa, died Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A gathering of remembrance will be held from 2 - 5 p.m. on December 20, 2024, at the Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Jim was born November 19, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Bob and Ruth (Markham) Eckert. He graduated from Jefferson High School and went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Northern Iowa. Jim was united in marriage to Ann Marie Noll on August 7, 1971, in Cedar Rapids. He built a successful career in the insurance industry for 43 years, working for Iowa National Mutual, Ohio Casualty, and Stamy Agency, Inc., before retiring in 2014. Jim regularly attended Calvary Baptist Church. He was a steadfast supporter of his children and grandchildren, encouraging and cheering them on in their sports, extracurricular pursuits, and life.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ann Eckert of Fairfax; children, Steven (Jennifer) Eckert of Tigard, Oregon, David (Laura) Eckert of Shueyville, Iowa, and Jean Milburn of Marion, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Anna, Benjamin, Caleb, Katrina, Abigail, Noelle, and Elena; sister-in-law, Anne Noll; and brother-in-law, Mark (Ruth) Noll.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Ruth Eckert; brother, Larry Eckert; sister, Sharon Lou Eckert; in-laws, Husky and Evelyn Noll; and brother-in-law, Craig Noll.
