James Frederick Jones (Fred, aka Freddy) died November 17, 2024 in a car accident in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A resident of Cedar Rapids, Fred was a passionate, well-known blues harmonica musician, political activist, proud union member, and international traveler. Fred was born in Bloomington, Illinois on June 29, 1949 to his late parents Alberta Brinner Jones and Theron Jones. He is survived by two sisters, Susan Jones Amici, Harrison, Arkansas, and Kathy Jones Cahill, Stanford, Illinois.
In addition, Fred is survived by numerous nieces and nephews including Steve (Cindy) Clark; Sean (Eva) Garmer; Julie (Alan) Paris; Zoe (John) Fernandes; Sarah Cahill; Elizabeth Cahill; and Rose Cahill. As a beloved great-uncle, Fred is survived by numerous great-nieces and -nephews who loved his adventurous spirit and ability to teach harmonica to any and all kids. He loved Arkansas, had many plans and loved to talk to anyone about his passions.
We invite everyone to celebrate “Freddy Jones” and his wonderful music and life on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Checkers Tavern, Cedar Rapids, Iowa at 3 PM. Thank you, Fred for your passion about music, life and travel. Godspeed, my brother.
