Penelope D. State, age 83, of Waverly, Iowa, died Friday, November 29, 2024, at UnityPoint Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.
Pene was born on December 3, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Gwendolyn (Rowden) Kadlec. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids in 1959. On October 2, 1959, Pene was united in marriage to Emil Tisl, the couple later divorced. On January 24, 1987, Pene was united in marriage to Dean State in Storm Lake, Iowa. During her life Pene lived in Manchester, Storm Lake, Dubuque, and Waverly, Iowa. She had various jobs like bookkeeper at Manchester Livestock Auction, however, her favorite job was being a homemaker and wife.
Pene was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly. Pene enjoyed wintering in Florida, traveling, playing golf, was an avid reader, and loved eating chocolate.
Pene’s memory is honored by: two sons, Emil (Vanessa) Tisl of Independence, Iowa and Jeff Tisl of West Union, Iowa; two granddaughters, Andrea (Stephen) Buskey of Yorkville, Illinois and Ashley Tisl of Independence; and great-granddaughter, McKenna (Austin) Larkin of Independence. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Steven Kadlec.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, at Good Shepherd Chapel Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, at the Good Shepherd Chapel, Bartels. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Retrieving Freedom or Cedar Valley Hospice. Online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
