Surviving are two sons, Doug (Cherie) Clow, Springfield, Ohio, and Don (Toni) Clow, Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Tanya (John) Clow Chidsey, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Nathan (Melissa) Clow, Cedar Rapids, Andrew (Angie) Clow, South Charleston, Ohio, and Alex (Rebecca) Clow, Lima, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren, Andrea, Luke, Victoria, Timothy, Elizabeth, Addison and Sage; and a brother-in-law, Don (Millie) Smith, Medford, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 2008; and her sister, Ruth Marie Smith, in 1978.
Hyla June Reggentin was born May 8, 1921, in the river valley of Union Township, Delaware County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Rudolph and Minnie Green Reggentin. She received her early education in the Moss Hill School near her home. Hyla graduated from Delhi High School with the Class of 1938. She continued her education at Lenox College in Hopkinton, where she graduated in the spring of 1940. She returned to Moss Hill School in the fall of 1940 as a teacher this time.
On Nov. 21, 1941, Hyla Reggentin married John Clow in Hopkinton. Hyla worked for a brief time in the office of Lux Hatchery. In the fall of 1949, she took the job of linotype operator at the Hopkinton Leader. In July 1962, she started working at The Cedar Rapids Gazette as a linotype operator. She retired from that position in June 1983.
Hyla was active in the Hopkinton community. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and also belonged to UMW, Miriam Circle and volunteered at the Tiny House. She was active in the Kill Kare Club, Kensington Club, Clio Club, Hopkinton Library Board and Delaware County Historical Society, serving as president of these groups on several occasions.
Hyla really enjoyed her Walking Club. Thursdays were reserved for the walkers, who traveled all of Eastern Iowa, visiting sites and restaurants, tending the Lenox College Memorial Garden, playing cards, eating and laughing. Hyla and her husband, John, enjoyed traveling and went to all 50 states multiple times and 30 countries.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to the Delaware County Historical Society to benefit Lenox College, which was near and dear to Hyla and John's hearts.
