Two teenagers were rescued from the cold water of Coralville Lake Saturday morning.
Two male teenagers — one 17 years old and one 18 — were preparing to go duck hunting just after 6:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
The teenagers were using a canoe to set up decoys near the Sandy Beach boat ramp at Coralville Lake when the waders one of the males was wearing began taking in water. The release states that he was not able to get into the canoe, but they were able to move to shallower water.
First responders launched two rescue boats and they were able to rescue the young men and their dog, the release states. One of the males was transported via ambulance to a hospital for symptoms of hypothermia.
In addition to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the Swisher and North Liberty fire departments and Area Ambulance Services responded.
