Donald ‘Don’ Lee Michaels, 68, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. On Saturday, December 7, 2024, a visitation will take place at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. The Memorial Mass will follow immediately at 10:30 a.m.
Don was born on April 10, 1956, in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, to Lawrence and Elizabeth (Hulway) Michaels. He graduated from Michigan University of Technology and obtained his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Iowa. He married the love of his life, Kathleen Hatch, on February 6, 1988, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After dedicating 40 years of his career to Rockwell-Collins, he retired in 2019.
Don had a deep appreciation for golfing and gardening. He cherished moments spent by the fireplace that he and Kathi built together. He was a loyal supporter of the Detroit Lions. Go, Lions!
Survivors include his wife, Kathi Michaels; mother, Bettie Michaels; sisters, Susan (Monte) Myers and Lorna (Peter) Rosol; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Hatch; sisters-in-law, Trish (John) LeClere and Cheri (Randy) Taylor; brother-in-law, Dave Hatch; nieces, Elissa (Bryan) Valentine and Leigha Rosol; and nephews, Christopher (Julie) Myers, Nick Rosol, Andrew LeClere, Brad LeClere, and Scott Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his father and nephew, Jacob Taylor; and father-in-law, Chet Hatch.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the donor’s choice in Don’s honor.
