Dorothy (Durey) Brondel, 91, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with visitation to begin at 10 a.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Dorothy was born May 25, 1933, in Prairie Township, rural Manchester, the daughter of Harold and Edith (Eldridge) Durey. She graduated from Manchester High School and attended Moody Bible Institute. On November 26, 1988, Dorothy was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Brondel at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She was a beloved sister and an active faithful member of Community Baptist Church in Marion, Iowa. Dorothy’s favorite hymn was Amazing Grace, and her life was filled with a testimony to Christ. Her kindness was a blessing she shared with all the people around her.
Survivors include her husband, Dick Brondel; siblings, Georgia LeClere Griffith, Lucille (Grady) Zehr, and Allyn (Ilona) Durey; nieces and nephews, Terry Martin, Larry Martin, Cindy Salat, Lois Morrow, Scott Ryan, Steve Ryan, Rusty Ryan, Bret Zehr, Kim Wells, Leslie LoBello, David Durey, and Debra Lockhart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Glenn Durey and Lona Ryan; sister-in-law, Bethel Martin; mother-in-law and father-in-lawn Elsie Elcorn and Ernest William Brondel.
