MILDRED MAE KOENIG
Marengo
Mildred Mae Koenig, 94, of Marengo, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo, with the Rev. Lisa Crow officiating. Burial will be in Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
Memorials may be contributed to Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Mildred is survived by her two children, Allen (Julie) Koenig of Marengo and Marilyn (Jim) Freeze of Walker; eight grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Donald Kahler of Brooklyn; and also a son-in-law, Larry Wandling of Atlanta, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred, in 2006; a daughter, Vivian Wandling; a sister, Mary Volz; and four brothers, Everett, Floyd, Ivan and Howard.
Mildred Mae Kahler was born July 6, 1923, in rural Oxford, the daughter of Lou and Stella DeGood Kahler. She graduated from Marengo High School. She was united in marriage to Frederick Koenig on Sept. 29, 1940, at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Mildred helped her husband, Fred, farm northwest of Marengo and also helped run the family business. She enjoyed baking and cooking, reading stories to her grandchildren and polka dancing with her husband. Mildred was very devoted to her family with all their needs and loved them all very much.
