Robert was born July 11, 1941, on the family farm west of Marengo, Iowa, to Joseph and Irene (Plotz) LaGrange. He attended St. Michael's Catholic School in Norway. On a cold winter day, Jan. 29, 1963, Robert married Dolores Schoenfelder in Sioux Falls, S.D., and together they raised three children. Robert worked on a farm near Rake, Iowa, before the couple moved back to eastern Iowa in 1964. While farming was Robert's main occupation, he also worked many manufacturing jobs.

Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores LaGrange of Amana; children, Vernon (Brenda) Hartson, and Mary (Eric) Foreman, both of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Mark (Sharron) LaGrange, Cecelia (Gary) Burbach, Coletta (Don) Slezak, Ed LaGrange, Jim (Dot) LaGrange, Sydney (Karen) LaGrange, Monica Bender, Mary LaGrange and Anna (Randy) Mumm; along with several nieces and nephews.
