IOWA CITY — The No. 1 kicker in the country is no longer a Hawkeye.
Scott Starzyk — the top-ranked kicker in Kohl’s Kicking Camps’ 2025 recruiting rankings — announced on social media Monday evening that he has decommitted from the Hawkeyes.
“I want to thank the University of Iowa and especially Coach (LeVar) Woods and Coach (Kirk) Ferentz for the opportunity to play football for the Hawkeyes,” Starzyk said in a tweet.
Starzyk committed to the Hawkeyes in July over scholarship offers from Syracuse, Mississippi State, UTSA and others. At the time, he told The Gazette that presented “the opportunity to play in some of the biggest stages and then be coached by one of the best coordinators in the business.”
“(LeVar Woods) is putting guys in the league, and that’s the main goal,” Starzyk said in a phone call with The Gazette.
The decommitment comes about a week before next month’s early signing period for 2025 recruits.
Current Iowa kicker Drew Stevens will be in his final year of eligibility in 2025. Iowa’s only other kicker on its roster is Tripp Woody, a true freshman who still will have another four years of eligibility after this season.
