IOWA CITY — “Shaggy” appears to be Iowa’s starting quarterback again this week.
Jackson Stratton is the first-team quarterback on Iowa’s depth chart ahead of Friday’s regular-season finale against Nebraska.
Stratton went 10-of-14 for 76 yards in his first career start against Maryland. He first saw game action on Nov. 8 when he replaced injured quarterback Brendan Sullivan and was 3-of-6 for 28 passing yards and 14 rushing yards against the Bruins.
Marco Lainez is Iowa’s second-team quarterback on this week’s depth chart. Lainez participated in pregame warm-ups against Maryland although he had a cast on his nonthrowing hand.
Cade McNamara, who has been recovering from a concussion, is not listed on the depth chart. McNamara released a statement on Friday saying he is “doing everything in my power” to return to the field, specifically mentioning Nebraska as a game in which he had “every intention to play.”
Elsewhere on the depth chart, right tackle Gennings Dunker is not listed after missing the Maryland game with an injury. (He still made the trip with the team, though.) Nick DeJong is listed as the starting right tackle in place of Dunker.
Wide receiver Reece Vander Zee also is not listed on the depth chart. Vander Zee exited the Oct. 26 win over Northwestern with an injury — a “lower-leg deal,” Coach Kirk Ferentz said at the time — and has not seen game action since.
Cornerback Jermari Harris is unsurprisingly not listed either. A team spokesman said in a statement last week it was a “medical issue,” but 247 Sports first reported Harris plans to opt out of the rest of the season.
On Monday, Harris posted on social media a “thank you” with black and gold heart emojis.
The depth chart Iowa releases on Monday is not always an accurate indicator of what the Hawkeyes will actually do that week in their game. Last week, for example, McNamara was listed as the first-team quarterback on the Monday depth chart, but it was clear later in the week that Stratton would start against Maryland.
