Ever present in my mind today are the masses of German citizens who allowed themselves to be convinced that people of Jewish descent, LGBTQ people, and political opponents were a threat to their well-being and prosperity. Evil. The enemy within. We know what lengths were allowed to ease their fears. How far will we go?
A convicted felon and interminable teller of falsehoods convinced masses of U.S. citizens that he cares about their prosperity and that we are the threat to their ability to thrive: people with non-Western European ancestry or non-Anglo-Saxon religious beliefs; people born (in a myriad ways) in the middle of a perceived binary called gender; political opponents; people so desperate they gave up everything to seek a better life for themselves and their children on “the promised land” of U.S. soil; and people who believe that a woman’s health, well-being and life are just as sacred as her fertilized egg and whose choices should be left up to her. He showed us and told us how far he will go in his own pursuits as he promises to ease the fear he instilled. How far will we go?
