Alberta Lovejoy, 84, of Marion, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at Winslow House Care Center, Marion. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy (Scott) McMillen of Marion; granddaughter, Christa (Kyle) Stephens of Cedar Rapids; great-granddaughter, Evelynne Grace Stephens; and brother, Robert "Bobby" Rector of Olathe, Kan.
Alberta June Rector was born July 8, 1933, to Marion and Sabra (Burke) Rector in Minburn, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Minburn High School. She met George Lovejoy in the Des Moines area, and they married on Nov. 18, 1960, in Minburn. Alberta worked as an office and clerical assistant at Dr. Rater's cardiologist office in Cedar Rapids until her retirement after more than 25 years. Alberta later picked up a part-time job at the Eastern Iowa Airport gift shop.
Alberta belonged to the VFW and Legion Auxiliaries for many years, and enjoyed volunteering with George there. She enjoyed crosswords, reading and watching soap operas, but especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter and great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; daughter, Georgia Ann; sisters, Darlene Smith and Marilyn Ball Bills; and brother, Donald Rector.
Alberta's family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staffs at UnityPoint Hospice and Winslow House Care Center in Marion for the excellent caregiving of Alberta during her illness.
