Joan Marie (Richards) Harwood, age 70, of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, November 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
No services will be held at this time.
Joan was born on April 24, 1954, in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Donald and Gloria (Steiner) Richards. Joan served 13 years in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1986. On February 15, 1991, Joan married the love of her life, Larry G. Harwood, in Coeur’ d Alene, ID. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, especially Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts, playing bingo, and working with flowers.
Those left to cherish Joan’s memory are her husband, Larry G. Harwood, of Cedar Rapids, IA; her son, Troy Harwood (Ashley); daughter-in-law, Audrey Harwood; grandchildren, Hailie White, of Platteville, WI, and Autumn Marie Delaney, of Cedar Rapids; her brother, Michael C. Richards; her pets, Amos and Bruno. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Patrick (Kelly) Richards, and her furry friends, Bonifer, Jewels, and Annie.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital for all the love and care they showed Joan, while she was in their care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
