John Russell Betterton, age 81, of Jesup, IA passed away at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, IA on Sunday, November 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
A service will be held at a later date.
John was born on August 6, 1943, in Knoxville, IA. He was the son of the late Harold and Margaret (Clarke) Betterton. On May 3, 1964, John married the love of his life, Pat Neighbor, in Cedar Rapids, IA. John loved fishing trips to Canada, hunting, and was a Jack of all trades. John loved his family and was a professional spectator at all his grandchildren’s games and activities. John always gave to others before himself, even after death, he is helping as many people as possible through the Iowa Donor Network.
Those left to cherish John’s memory is his wife, Pat of Jesup, IA; his children, Chuck (Kimberly) Betterton, of Shellsburg, IA, Paul (Lisa) Betterton, of Atkins, IA, Becky (Morgan) Kuper, of Jesup, IA, and Matthew (Jodie) Betterton, of Vinton, IA; his grandchildren, Morgan, Charlie (Sydney), Keaton (Dakota), Kelsey (Nate), Kaylee (Luke), Katie, Kaden, Kolten, Taylor, Jake (Kate), Paige, Sam, Maddie, Jack, Johnathon (Tealya), Scott (Alexis), and Mike; his great-grandchildren, Ivy, Owen, Aly, Max, and Ruby; his siblings, Sara Hopkins, of Knoxville, IA, Joe Betterton, of Knoxville, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Michael, a brother, Dave Betterton, a brother-in-law, Dick Hopkins, and a sister-in-law, Marsha Betterton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Camp Courageous and or Cedar Valley Hospice.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Buchanan County Medical Center, especially the hospice department, as well as Cedar Valley Hospice.
