Josephine "Jo" Mae Phelps, 83, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at St. John Catholic Church, Blairstown, with the Rev. Craig Steimel as celebrant. Interment: Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, 108 Fremont St. NW, Blairstown, and one hour before service time at the funeral home on Saturday.
Memorials: Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha.

Jo is survived by her children: Arlene (Bob Christenson) McAtee of West Des Moines, Bill McAtee of Grimes, Debra Phelps of Richmond, Ky., Mary Flaherty of Cedar Rapids and Jim (Michelle) Phelps of Marengo; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Ivadell Straka of Blairstown; and a special niece, Dianne Rittenberry, and her children, Kendal and Denver.
