Mark “Eggy” Eggleston, 76, of Coralville, Iowa passed away peacefully at home on October 26, 2024. Born Sept 11, 1948 in Waverly, Iowa to Lorraine and Max Eggleston, Mark was known for his big heart, love of the Iowa Hawkeyes, and lifelong commitment to the hospitality industry.
Mark graduated from the University of Iowa College of Business and was a proud member of the University of Iowa basketball team. His passion for hospitality started with his first job at Pizzazz in Burlington, Iowa, and continued through many successful business ventures, including The Field House in downtown Iowa City, Fun Hog Ranch in Las Vegas, and Eggy’s on 965 in North Liberty. Mark was a true people person, a respected leader and teacher, especially to his employees. His businesses were more than places to work; they were hubs of laughter, connection, and community.
An enthusiastic Hawkeyes fan, Mark never missed a game cheering his team on with pride and loyalty. An amazing athlete as well, he loved to golf, spending joyful days on the course with friends, honing his favorite shot.
Mark is survived by his loving partner Sandy Shank; stepchildren Cody (Dorna) Shank, and Morgan (Nick) Davies; cherished grandchildren Addison and Isley Davies; brother Kim (Paula) Eggleston; nephews Max Eggleston and Matt (Mara) Phillips; and great-nephews Bryson and Chase Phillips. Mark was preceded in death by his parents Max and Lorraine Eggleston, and sister Marian (Mark) Phillips.
A celebration of Mark’s life will be held on November 10, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wig and Pen, 1220 Highway 6 West in Iowa City.
