How to submit an Obituary to The Gazette
The Gazette is located at 116 3rd St SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401. You can submit your obituary by email or in person during business hours (Monday-Friday 9 am to 2pm) with your materials and we will assist you.
Prepayment is required before an item is printed. An obituaries editor will contact you by email with further details for payment after the obituary has been received and edited. Cost is $25 for online placement plus 50 cents per word and photo charges (see below information for pricing). Name of funeral home or crematory and respective phone number is required to verify death.
The obituary must be submitted before 1 p.m. for publication on thegazette.com at 6 p.m. and in the daily edition the next day, with the exception of obituaries for Sunday publication, which must be submitted by 1 p.m. on Fridays.

Required information:
- First and last name, address and phone number of person submitting the obituary
- Name of Deceased (exactly how you wish it to be published)
- Date of death
- Town to be listed under the Deceased’s name
- Name of funeral home/cremation service assisting family
- Date to publish obituary
Optional items:
- Photos
- Emblem selection (American Legion, Elks, cross, etc) cost: $10
If Including Photos
Photo costs:
Small BW – $10
Small color – $35
Large BW – $25
Large color – $50
Premium (horizontal) BW – $45
Premium (horizontal) color – $70
Both full color photos or black/white photos may be submitted. Photos may be submitted by email, mail, or dropped off at The Gazette during business hours. A wallet-size photo or larger is recommended. Glossy finished photos reproduce the best.
Do not cut photos down to size. Photos will be resized and cropped as needed by our team. Photos will be returned if a self-addressed, stamped envelope is provided. Photos left at The Gazette will be discarded after two months. The Gazette will take reasonable care of photos submitted. The Gazette assumes no financial responsibility for original photos that are lost or inadvertently damaged in the process.
