I’m Jeff Poulter Iowa House Candidate for District 95. I’m a husband, father and grandfather who worked for over 37 years with United Parcel Service in Iowa and around the country.
My UPS career provided me opportunities at every level of the organization, beginning as a part-time loader while attending college, to working as a UPS Teamsters delivery driver serving many of the communities that now make up District 95. I advanced into management with UPS and completed assignments in Mason City and Des Moines within Iowa and roles in Georgia, Nevada and Alabama. I returned to Iowa prior to my retirement and my wife and I reside north of Middletown.
Since being retired for the past 10 years I have volunteered as the Live Events Director of live music programming for the Capitol Theater in Burlington. I am currently serving my third term on the board of the theater.
I have always been a citizen who has voted and have tried to stay informed of issues impacting our state and country. There are several reasons why I made the decision to seek state office, and it began in November of 2022 when I cast my vote and current incumbent Taylor Collins was unopposed.
I’ve always been a believer that elections are about choice. Over the next two legislative sessions I observed Taylor Collins casting votes that followed the guidance of party leadership and not what was supported or best for the people of District 95 or Iowa. He voted against supporting public education, against Iowa’s Area Education Agencies, against women’s reproductive freedoms and, when questioned, his response was, I support the governor.
When I inquired and learned there would be no candidate to oppose Rep. Collins in 2024, I was morally opposed to this, and I took the steps to be a candidate for the Iowa House. I believe first a state representative serves the people who elect them, not party leadership. I vow to be a representative that will do that, with a willingness to listen to the citizens of the District 95 and work across party lines to pass legislation that improves the quality of my constituents and the people of Iowa. I’m confident that my broad range of work experience combined with the success of my volunteer efforts will serve me well in being a successful legislator.
Jeff Poulter is a Democrat running in Iowa House District 95.
