KALONA — The Kalona General Store & Eatery is coming under new ownership soon.
After 17 years in business, owners David and Susan Finley have announced the sale of the specialty grocery store with bulk Amish-style offerings, and its attached restaurant.
The Eatery’s final day under their ownership will be Nov. 27. The General Store’s last day will be Dec. 20. Both sides of the store will temporarily close for remodeling under new ownership.
The store has been sold to Best of Iowa, which plans to reopen it in March 2025. Best of Iowa operates another shop at 111 Fifth St., adjacent to the Kalona General Store.
“The intention is to maintain the charm and atmosphere of an old general store, while incorporating some remodeling and revamping,” the store posted in a statement, thanking longtime supporters of the business. “(David and Susan) wish the community continued enjoyment of the store and look forward to seeing its fresh, new chapter unfold.”
