David Charles Ellis, 65, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017.
Celebration of Life gathering will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at The Avacentre at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. A private family inurnment will be at a later date in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
David was born May 11, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Viola (Petsel) Ellis. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School, Class of 1970. David served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked for over 16 years at Lewis Systems. He enjoyed building and collecting model cars, watching old cartoons, including "Donald Duck," and was an avid NASCAR fan of Dale Earnhardt Jr.
David is survived by his brother, Melvin (Sue) Ellis, and his sister, Cindy McGowan, both of Cedar Rapids; his nieces and nephews, Christine Miller, Roxanne Ellis, Michele McGowan and Eric McGowan; his great-nieces, Raven, Madison, Tayah, Taylor, DaMiya and Harper; his great-nephew, Devasier; as well as close friends, Dave Hinton and Jim Hardy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth Ellis.
