Richard L. Carver, 79, passed away October 15, 2024.
Richard was born March 20, 1945, to Loren and Mildred Carver in Cedar Rapids. He grew up in Fairfax and graduated from Prairie High School. After graduation, Dick enlisted in the United States Navy. Six years later, he returned to Cedar Rapids and married Judy Fish.
Dick was very handy. He could fix almost anything: a car, plumbing issue or other problem was no match for Dick. He spent his career in construction and manufacturing. He was a hard worker and never complained; he provided for his family. Dick displayed his sacrificial love and commitment to Judy when she became sick. He took wonderful care of her for her last years.
Dick was a member of the American Legion in Shellsburg. He enjoyed fishing and was a good drawer. He enjoyed family time- he was known as “Grumpy Uncle Dick” – he lovingly made his nieces and nephews cry.
Dick is survived by his children, Rick (Cassandra Clinton) Carver and Jody (Jason) Brown; grandchildren, Amber Carver, Sadie Carver, Kayla (Zachary Redman) Carver, Marquell Brown, Janae Brown, Lucas Brown and Chaz Brown; one great grandchild, Zaylix Brown; and sister, Doris Wagner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; siblings, Ralph Carver, Mary Buresh and Russell Carver.
