Kimberly Jean Jons, 51, of Walker, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
A memorial service will
be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 622 Main St., Center Point, Iowa. The Rev. David Renfro will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home before the service. Inurnment: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills, Iowa.
Kim was born Aug. 23, 1966, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon and Joy (Bickford) Jons. She graduated from North Linn High School in 1984 and then attended Capri Cosmetology School. Kim worked as a cosmetologist in the salon at JCPenney. Later, she worked for Discovery Living and, more recently, for REM of Iowa. During this time, Kim graduated from Kirkwood Community College with a degree in occupational and physical therapy. She loved taking care of her patients. Kim was a leader in the Wapsi Valley Hustlers 4-H Club.
Despite being diagnosed and in treatment, Kim was active in events to raise cancer awareness and participated in fundraising events such as the Polar Plunge and cancer walks.
Kim is survived by her daughter, Veronica Jons of Walker; her mother, Joy Jons of Walker; and siblings, Kenny (Christine) Jons and John Jons (Chasity Hearn), both of Walker, and Becky (Matt) Coppess of Center Point; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Kim was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Jons; and her grandparents, Evalyn and Bill Bickford, and Vernon and Marion Jons Sr.
Memorials in Kim's name may be directed to the family.
Special thanks to Kim's caregivers throughout her journey, including Mercy Medical Center staff, the loving staff and volunteers with hospice, and especially her nurse, Jamie Moses.
