For the last 10 years, I have raised my five children in NW Cedar Rapids with my wife of 30 years, so I understand how difficult things can get when you are raising a family.
On top of just trying to take care of our family, we spent six years navigating the children’s cancer world with our son. He is healthy now, but I understand the burden that is faced when you are trying to pay for groceries, get your kids to school, and keep life as “normal” as possible for everyone. I am thankful for the community that came to together to support us and now I would like to be your voice in the Iowa House of Representatives for NW Cedar Rapids.
With prices at the gas station and grocery store skyrocketing over the last few years, the last thing that we should have to worry about is an increase in taxes. Our current representative has failed to support the decreases in taxes that we have received. I am committed to decreasing the tax burdens on Iowa families and finding solutions to the increasing property taxes that we face. Iowans deserve to keep their hard-earned money to take care of their families and invest in their communities.
Every Iowa student deserves a world class education, whether after high school they will be joining the workforce, going to trade school, community college, or a four-year university. Not long ago, Iowa was known for its quality of education, and it is our job to ensure that every student receives the opportunities they need to have a bright future.
We should feel safe walking our streets at night, and we should not have to worry about our kids on their walk home from school. I will work to keep our communities safe by supporting our law enforcement and helping them adapt to a changing environment. Burdensome government barriers and regulations that fail to protect our communities need to be removed.
Barclay Woerner is a Republican running in House District 79.
