IOWA CITY — Iowa football is no longer short its All-America safety.
Sebastian Castro has returned to practice after missing last week’s game against Michigan State with an ankle injury, head coach Kirk Ferentz said in his weekly news conference on Tuesday.
Fellow safety Koen Entringer, who exited Saturday’s game with a hand injury, also has been practicing.
“So I anticipate they’re going to be OK,” Ferentz said.
With Entringer’s injury, Ferentz said he “dodged a bullet there.”
“I don’t know if you’re allowed to say that, but we did,” Ferentz said. “That looked like it might be a little bit more serious on Saturday.”
Ferentz was less optimistic about the team’s injured players on the offensive side of the ball. Tight end Addison Ostrenga still is “going to be out for a while,” and offensive lineman Beau Stephens also is not expected to play this week against Northwestern.
“We’ll see what next week brings,” Ferentz said of Stephens. “But he definitely won’t play this week.”
Fullback Hayden Large played for the first time last weekend since Iowa’s Oct. 5 game at Ohio State. He took 25 snaps, per Pro Football Focus. Ferentz said he was “sore Sunday” and “a little bit sore yesterday,” but Large was “fine” on Tuesday.
