CEDAR RAPIDS — A trial for a Cedar Rapids man, who is accused of fatally shooting a DoorDash delivery driver last October in an apartment parking lot, has been reset to Dec. 10 in Linn County District Court.
Cameron Armad Leonard, 26, is charged with first-degree murder, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent, use of a dangerous weapon in commission of a crime and being a person ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon.
Leonard is accused of fatally shooting Myron Snyder, 21, of Cedar Rapids, while he was delivering a DoorDash order to Leonard’s brother, Maurice Brown, on Oct. 5, 2023. Snyder was shot six times in an apartment complex parking lot at 3960 Sherman St. NE in Cedar Rapids, according to a criminal complaint.
Brown, who also was killed in the shootout, placed a DoorDash order delivered by Snyder, the complaint stated. Brown knew Snyder, and “there had been a previous conflict between them,” according to the complaint.
Surveillance video from a nearby building, which was retrieved by police, showed Brown and Leonard approaching Snyder, who was parked in the apartment complex lot. Brown and Snyder got into a physical fight, while Leonard “took off his shirt and stood by while armed and likely displaying a firearm,” the complaint stated.
Snyder then got into his car and tried to back out of his parking spot to leave, but Brown fired three shots at Snyder’s car while standing in front of it. Brown approached the driver’s side of the vehicle with the hammer of his revolver cocked back, according to the complaint.
Snyder, whose mother told The Gazette he had a concealed carry permit, fired back at Brown from inside his car, killing Brown, the complaint stated. Leonard then shot into Snyder’s car. Snyder got out of his car and fired back at Leonard several times. Leonard continued firing at Snyder, and Snyder eventually died from gunshot wounds in his heart and head, according to the complaint.
Leonard then reloaded his gun and circled the car until he collapsed because of his injuries. Evidence found on the scene showed he had fired at least 13 times and at least eight of them entered the car. Snyder had been shot six times by the time he died, according to the complaint.
Police were called to the scene at 8:21 p.m. and found Brown and Snyder both dead. Leonard was taken to a hospital and later released.
Linn County Attorney Nick Maybanks previously said Leonard wasn’t immediately arrested because the investigation was ongoing.
Leonard was arrested in November 2023 by U.S. marshals in Burlington after he was released from the hospital, where he was taken to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds after the Oct. 5 shooting.
Another man, Pierre Danyon Morrow, 41, of Cedar Rapids, also was arrested in the shooting.
According to criminal complaints, police found two guns on the scene, which were believed to be the guns used by Snyder and Brown. The gun used by Leonard wasn’t found at the scene, and police believe Morrow — the stepdad of Brown and Leonard — took it and hid it in his house after the shooting.
Morrow is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, accessory after the fact and obstructing prosecution or defense. He posted a $25,000 cash or surety bail last year and is under supervision with the 6th District Department of Correctional Services. His trial is set for Feb. 18.
Snyder’s mother, Alicia Rogers, told The Gazette last year she had been on the phone with her son at the time of the shooting.
“He’s never been in any type of trouble whatsoever,” Rogers said. “He may have a speeding ticket on his record. He went to Washington High School. He did basketball and football all four years. He’s an amazing kid, and I’m not saying that just because it’s my kid.”
Besides delivering for DoorDash, Snyder also worked part time with the Boys and Girls Club of the Corridor.
Leonard remains in jail on a $1 million cash-only bail.
