Mary Viola Flanders, 97, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, October 14, 2024, at
Meth-Wick Woodlands. In December there will be a memorial mass for Mary at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial: 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Keota. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home.
Mary is survived by her sons, Thomas, David (Susan Ecroyd) and James (Meredith) Flanders; daughter, Susan; daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Flanders; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; 2 sons, Michael and Robert; and 3 sisters.
Mary was born on March 21, 1927, in southeastern Iowa. She attended Iowa Wesleyan College and earned her BA in Early Childhood Education from the University of Iowa. Mary married Raymond Flanders and loved being a wife and homemaker. Additionally, Mary taught in the Cedar Rapids school district and served as a substitute teacher for both parochial and public schools in the area. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority.
Mary loved playing bridge and spending time with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
