IOWA CITY — Iowa defensive back Deavin Hilson is leaving the program, the team announced Thursday via a news release.
Hilson, a fourth-year player from Des Moines, has “decided to focus on academics with the goal of graduating next August,” head coach Kirk Ferentz said in the release.
“We thank him for his contributions and wish him the best in the future,” Ferentz said.
Hilson has appeared in five games this season, with his contributions coming exclusively on special teams. He has appeared in 27 games in his Hawkeye career. He would have had one more year of eligibility remaining after the 2024 season.
The 6-foot-1 defensive back is the third player to leave the team this season. Running back Leshon Williams and wide receiver Kaleb Brown both departed earlier this month with plans to enter the transfer portal.
