Daryl LaVerne Brennaman, 80, of Lisbon, formerly of La Porte City, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He was born April 9, 1944, in Urbana, the son of Donald and Leila Miller Brennaman.
He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era from September 12, 1961 – January 11, 1966, and served in the Army National Guard from May 1974 to May 1975.
Daryl married Judith Thiele on August 17, 1964, in Quantico, VA; she preceded him in death on February 23, 2007. He married Carmen Stolte in La Porte City on August 9, 2014.
Daryl retired from John Deere on May 11, 2006, after 40+ years of service. After retirement, he drove a Tour Bus for Windstar in Cedar Rapids and Hawkeye Stages in Waterloo.
He was a member of the La Porte City American Legion USS San Diego Post #207 and was a past member of the Iowa Patriot Guard Riders.
He enjoyed woodworking and watching NASCAR, the Chicago Cubs, and the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, camping, motorcycle riding, and especially mowing his lawn. He also enjoyed wintering in Arizona.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen of Lisbon; a daughter, Shelly (Jeremy) Robb of La Porte City; a son-in-law, Ryan (Kerry) Lindsay of Champlin, MN; a step-daughter, Kristina Armstrong of Oxford; a stepson, Kevin (Stephanie) Armstrong of Coal City, IL; four grandchildren, Reid (Kaylie Asch) Lindsay, Darian Lindsay and Kayla and Dena Robb; six step-grandchildren, Michael Akers, Alyssa (Caelab) Rogers, Courtney (Noel) Gomez, Cora Armstrong, Colton Armstrong, and Wyatt Ricke; two step-great-granddaughters, Braelynn Wagner and Amelia Gomez; two sisters, Donna Becker of Cedar Rapids and Shirley (Rudy) Pitts of Apache Junction, AZ; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Judy, and a daughter, DeAnne “DD” Lindsay.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Porte City, with burial in the West View Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the La Porte City American Legion U.S.S. San Diego Post #207.
Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Friday at Locke in La Porte City, 606 E. Main St., La Porte City, Iowa 50651, and also the hour before the service at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to the family, where a memorial fund will be established at a later date.
