Dorothy Jean Stroh, 86, of Marion, Iowa, went to be with our Lord Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 9, 2024, at home in Marion. The family will greet friends from 12 - 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, where a Memorial Service will follow at 2 p.m. Certified Celebrant, Amy Hart, will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Merle Hay Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dorothy was born on November 2, 1937, in Des Moines, the daughter of Eldon and Florence (Ashby) Beck. She was a graduate of East High School in Des Moines. In 1959, Dorothy was united in marriage to Aden “Jim” C. Stroh at the Park Avenue Christian Church in Des Moines. Together, they had four children, and she cared for them in the home. Additionally, she was a talented artist who specialized in painting china. She traveled the world, teaching her craft and was the Iowa World China Painting President. Dorothy also served as the church secretary at Stuart United Methodist Church in Stuart, Iowa. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Dorothy is survived and lovingly remembered by her four children, Frank (Angie) Stroh of East Peru, Iowa, Dr. James Stroh of Sioux City, Iowa, John (Donna) Stroh of Norwalk, Iowa, and Dr Ann (Chris Steenrod) Stroh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Timothy Stroh, Daniel Stroh, Carey (Josh) Rawlings, Samuel Stroh (Kate Baumgartner), James Stroh, Carly Steenrod (Blake Houdeshell), Benjamin Steenrod, Miranda (Clint) Little, and Joseph (Isabelle) Heyer; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda (Dale) Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Christy (Tom) Webster of Berthoud, Colorado; and a host of extended family including nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aden C. “Jim” Stroh; sister, Shirley Swinehart; brother, Thomas Beck; and daughter-in-law, LaVon Stroh.
Memorials in Dorothy’s memory may be directed to Cedar Valley Humane Society, located at 7411 Mt Vernon Road SE in Cedar Rapids.
