Nathan “Nate” Roehr, age 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Westridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 18, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Shellsburg with Rev. Adam Baumann officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton. A memorial fund has been established.
Nate was born on February 19, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Arthur and Helen (Radeke) Roehr. He graduated from Shellsburg High School, with the Class of 1956. On July 24, 1959, he was united in marriage to Karolynn Kibbie at Zion Lutheran Church in Shellsburg.
Nate worked at Rockwell-Collins, until retiring at age 58. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he held numerous church offices. He was very active in the Shellsburg community. He was a member of the Shellsburg Lions Club with many years spent as treasurer. He was a member of the Shellsburg City Council for two terms, and also served as treasurer of the Shellsburg School Board. Nate and Karolynn enjoyed traveling, both nationally, where they visited 48 states, and internationally. They hosted 3 foreign exchange students. He loved going to auctions, collecting toy tractors, and helping with fall harvest. Nate was a true gentleman with a dry sense of humor and a servant’s heart.
He is survived by his wife Karolynn; children, Danny (Amy) Roehr, Andrea (Rick) Grimm, all of Shellsburg; 5 grandchildren, Jason (Mayse) Grimm, Ryan (Andrea) Grimm, Mitchell (Carly) Grimm, Kara (Timmy) Oehlerich, Halee (Frankie) Benter; bonus granddaughter, Erin (Jason) Zappas; 10 great-grandchildren, Keyten, Rylee, Jaxson, Chloe, Boyd, and Turner Grimm, Lennon Benter, Alexis, and Bryson Zappas; sister Donna Koopman of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; brother Donald (Ardie) Roehr of Ames; sister-in-law Anna Marie Kibbie of Shellsburg; 7 nieces, and 3 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law; 3 brothers-in-law, Merlyn Koopman, Bob Kibbie, Ed (Ruth) Kibbie; 1 niece, and 1 nephew.
