A national business advocacy organization is endorsing Eastern Iowa Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks in the race to represent Iowa’s 1st Congressional District.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce made its formal endorsement announcement Wednesday. The chamber has announced 30 endorsements of congressional candidates this cycle from 17 different states. Most are incumbents.
“Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks has been a champion in Congress, representing her constituents by standing up for small businesses and job creators across Iowa’s 1st District,” John Kirchner, vice president with the U.S. Chamber’s regional team, said in a statement.
“The Chamber is proud to support Rep. Miller-Meeks in her re-election campaign and we look forward to working together in the 119th Congress to pass legislation that will benefit all hardworking job creators and Americans,” Kirchner said.
Club for Growth scores Iowa lawmakers
Republican Sen. Jeff Reichman, of Montrose, and Rep. Jeff Shipley, of Birmingham, received the highest “pro-growth” legislative ratings from the Club for Growth Foundation, a nonprofit that advocates for free-market and pro-growth policies.
Reichman and Shipley both scored an 85 out of a possible 100 on Club for Growth’s scorecard, which considered votes on roughly a dozen pieces legislation that aligned with the organization’s goals: reducing taxes, limited spending, deregulation, medical malpractice and tort reform, school choice and term limits.
The highest-rated Democrats in each chamber were Rep. Megan Srinivas, of Des Moines, at 52; and Sen. Tony Bisignano, of Des Moines, at 29.
Retirees endorse Nunn
U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn’s congressional campaign announced more than two dozen endorsements from retirees in Central Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District.
Nunn, the first-term Republican incumbent, faces Democrat Lanon Baccam in the Nov. 5 election.
“I’m supporting Zach Nunn for re-election because he is 100 percent committed to protecting my Social Security and Medicare from politicians who want to use it as a pawn in political games,” Debra Heldt, one of 27 retirees who joined the coalition of retirees endorsing Nunn, said in a campaign news release.
The list includes endorsements from Polk, Dallas and Wapello counties.
