CEDAR RAPIDS — Delia’s Baked Goods in the New Bohemia district will be closing its storefront Nov. 1.
The bakery and cafe, which opened last November, was the first venture by young pastry chef Kaylee Pline. The Kirkwood Community College pastry chef graduate started serving breakfast, lunch and specialties like artisan bread and macarons at 999 Second St. SE, after coming up through establishments like Cobble Hill.
“We had an amazing first year meeting people and sharing our little safe space with you guys, and we are so thankful for what Cedar Rapids has allowed us to do,” a social media announcement stated.
Pline plans to continue selling her products through other outlets, the post said. Those hoping for a particular treat, class or event before Delia’s closure next month are encouraged to send their feedback to the bakery.
Recalibrating a historic space renovated from its former days as the Czech School and, subsequently, a sausage factory, Delia’s Baked Goods brought new life to the 1901 building that was vacant for years.
Several companies operated out of the building from the 1980s until the flood of 2008, when the building's lower level was damaged by floodwaters. Marshall Godwin briefly attempted to run the short-lived Czech School Deli out of the former Pohlena retail store in 2011.
