Stephen R. Hogan, 81, of Cedar Rapids, IA passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2024 surrounded by family. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hiawatha, Iowa. Inurnment will follow at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Calvary Cemetery in Ryan, Iowa.
Steve was born to John and Virginia (Power) Hogan on October 12, 1942. He is the second of eight children and was raised on a dairy farm north of Manchester, IA.
One of Steve’s greatest passions was carpentry. After computer programming for several years, he started his own carpentry business that he ran for many years. His hard work and dedication shined through his finished product.
Steve met his wife, Casey, in 2000 at a local dance. They continued their mutual love of dancing throughout the years. The couple wintered in Uvalde, TX for many years and developed a wonderful group of friends there, as well as many dear friends in the surrounding area of Cedar Rapids, namely Steve’s good friend, Ken Deerberg.
Steve is survived by his wife, Clarice “Casey” (O’Brien) Hogan and four children, Stephenie Hogan of Cedar Rapids, IA; Jeff (Brenda) Hogan of Walford, IA; McKenzie (Mike) Vuichard of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Zach (Chasiti) Hogan of North Liberty, IA. Surviving grandchildren include Nick, Casey, and Brielle Hogan; Jackson and Sydney Vuichard; and Ellynn and Montgomery Hogan. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Kimberly (Roy) Ayers and Shawn (Wanda) Ashby, and stepgrandchildren Brenna and Chris Ashby. Surviving siblings include John (Barbara) Hogan of Uvalde, TX, and sisters Mary Kay Hogan and Nancy Foss of Hopkins, MN; Eunice (Mike) Hasselbring of Jeffersonville, IN; Janice (Jim) Gude of Sun City West, AZ; Mona (Doug) Rans of Manchester, IA; and sister-in-law Clara (David – deceased) Hogan of Uvalde, TX. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Those preceding him in death are his parents, son Stephen (in infancy), and brother David Hogan.
Steve was a devout Catholic and a member of parishes, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Cedar Rapids, IA and St. Joseph’s in Knippa, TX.
The family wishes to give a special thank-you to Dr. Wm. Fusselman, his care team and the oncology treatment center. Also a special thank-you goes to the UnityPoint Hospice care team, especially Jim and Alicia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve’s memorium to the St. Luke’s Foundation, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, or St. Joseph’s Parish.
