Diane was born on February 19, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Arlene (Klekar) Giblin. She was a 1974 graduate of Linn-Mar High School. On June 30, 1979, Diane was united in marriage to Robert E. Rutherford in Marion. To this union, two daughters were born. Diane cared for her daughters at home as a homemaker, but later worked in marketing and retail for several years with Younkers, Marketing Force, and T.L. Grantham. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Diane was not only an avid baker, she was also a fantastic cook, who often made an abundance of food. The family would be eating leftovers for days. She enjoyed listening to music, dancing, shopping, and taking vacations. Diane loved going out to eat, especially at Texas Roadhouse, Chick-fil-A, and Olive Garden. She always enjoyed a tasty kolache or a glass of Cherry Coke Zero. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters, who were her pride and joy. She proudly attended their recitals and various school activities. Diane was also very selfless; she always put others’ needs before her own. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Diane is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 45 years, Robert Rutherford of Marion; two daughters, Kristy (Daniel Mabikulu) Rutherford of Marion, and Jayme (Richard) Escobar of Bali, Indonesia; three granddaughters, Kianna, Brynlee, and Jazlyn Mabikulu; sister, Deb (Chuck) Newton of Buckeye, Arizona; one brother, David (Laura) Giblin of Dubuque, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dennis Giblin; sister-in-law, Shirley Giblin; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
