Jerry J. Stych, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include three daughters, Sheryl Stych-Karr of Gilbert, Ariz., Linda (Donald) Olson of South Milwaukee, Wis., and Kathleen Detert of Coralville; one brother, Godfrey of Michigan; three grandchildren, Darren, Neal and George; and three great-greadchildren, Zachary, Raven and Brooklin.
Jerry was born Aug. 1, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Bohumil and Helen (Navratil) Stych. Jerry worked at Cherry-Burrell and retired from there after more than 45 years. During his working career, he was chairman of the Bargaining Committee for Local 1024 of the UAW as well as its chief steward for over 20 years.
After retirement, he was a board member of UAW Region 4 Board, chairman of Local 1024 Retirees, Western Fraternal and the Elks Club.
Jerry enjoyed music and played both the accordion and harmonica.
He will forever be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather and friend, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established in Jerry's name.
