Ann Schrader, 88, died Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 Saturday morning, October 5, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 am at the church. Father Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home has taken Ann and her family into their care. Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Jon, 3 children, Joan (Steve) Kunde, Paul (Peggy) Schrader, Dean (Christine) Schrader, 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ann Elaine Woods was born October 30, 1935, at Sumner, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Amy Lyons, Woods. She graduated from the Sumner High and continued her education at Mount Mercy Junior College in Cedar Rapids. She received her teaching certificate in 1955. She returned to Mount Mercy College and received her B.A. in education in 1970. In 1955, Ann started her teaching career in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Ann met her future husband Jon Schrader at a dance at Armar Ballroom in Marion and the couple married June 15, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ann taught in a rural school in Castle Grove near Monticello and later worked as a substitute teacher until 1962. She then taught third grade at West Elementary in Anamosa for a year then was hired by the Monticello schools to teach kindergarten for 8 years, second grade for 3 years, and then 19 years teaching transition. She retired in 1995 from full time teaching and worked 10 years as a substitute teacher for Monticello, Anamosa, Cascade, Dyersville, Bernard and Farley.

Ann loved to travel, she has been to China, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and England and Germany. She was very active in 4H, as a leader and a Judge. She was inducted to the 4H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair. Her grandchildren were her greatest love. She had Easter Egg Hunts for them, loved to play cards and rarely missed any of their school activities.

Ann was a member of the Mount Mercy Alumni Board. She also has an endowment fund to sponsor a Scholarship for student selecting Education as a major. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
