The Iowa Photo: Controlled Burn

Over this past summer we experienced something that reminded me of my home state of Oregon when we experienced heavy haze due to wildfire smoke blown south from Canada. This fall I saw another similar site when I drove by the smoldering aftermath of a controlled burn at Lake McBride on my way to an assignment in Solon. One thing led to another and a few days later I was up early in the morning to photograph a burn itself. Burns are not uncommon in the fall in Iowa. Fires both natural and man made have shaped the landscape for thousands of years.
