Frances C. Davidshofer, 84, of Dyersville, Iowa, and formerly of Worthington, Iowa, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Dyersville.
Friends and relatives of Frances may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a wake service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Services for Frances will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington, with the Rev. Dennis Conway presiding. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley, Iowa.
Frances was born March 29, 1933, in Dyersville, daughter of Herbert and Frances (Kremer) Benn. She received her education in Dyersville and graduated from Xavier High School in 1951. On April 21, 1953, she was united in marriage to Walter Davidshofer at the Basilica St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Dyersville. Walter preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 2014.
Frances enjoyed living on the farm and raising her eight children. She planted a large garden and worked beside her husband to provide for her family. She enjoyed sewing, baseball, reading, playing cards, Bingo and watching her family grow.
She was a member of St. Paul's Parish in Worthington.
She is survived by eight children, Ann (Larry) Lee of Manchester, Iowa, Mary (Luke) Oberbreckling of Mechanicsville, Iowa, Karen (Doug) Loney of Epworth, Iowa, Ken (Renee) Davidshofer of Earlville, Iowa, Bill (Ann) Davidshofer of Lisbon, Iowa, Peter (Lori) Davidshofer of Dyersville, Christy (Scott) Deutmeyer of Worthington and Sandy (Scotty) Krogman of Dyersville; 24 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, James (Margie) Benn of Dubuque, Iowa, Louis (Ruth) Benn of Manchester, and George (Linda) Benn of Dubuque; two sisters-in-law, Gwen (Jim) Schmitt and Carol (Mike) Lundergan, both of Dyersville; and one brother-in-law, Leo (Joyce) Davidshofer of Dubuque.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two grandchildren; six brothers, Charles (Charlotte) Benn, Tom (Jean) Benn, Herbert (Violet) Benn, Vernon Benn, Daniel Benn and Loras Benn; two sisters, Rosemary Harrington-Carlton and Ruth (Robert) Nurre; four brothers-in-law, Justin Harrington, Earl Carlton, Fred (Clara "Toots") Davidshofer and James C. 'Wimp" Davidshofer, and one son-in-law, Edward J. Hoefer.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Mercy Hospital in Dyersville, Oak Crest Manor and the Ellen Kennedy Living Center for all the care and support they gave to Frances.
